The Saturdays - Work Remixes (2009)

The Saturdays album is hit and miss but when it hits - like on the two singles so far, and this future single - it's pretty incredible.

Like 'If This Is Love' is the sort of song it's hard to imagine the UK's two existing girlgroups recording, which once again cements The Saturdays' role in the British pop 'canon'.

R.E.M. - Reckoning (2009)

Like the deluxe edition of Murmur, the 2009 expansion of Reckoning contains none of the scattered B-sides and outtakes rounded up the 1992 U.K. reissue. Most of these stray songs wound up on Dead Letter Office or the bonus disc of And I Feel Fine anyway, so this no great loss, and the live show from the Aragon Ballroom in 1984 that takes up the second disc is a great gain, particularly as it contains early versions of "Driver 8" and "Hyena," the latter performed two years prior to its appearance on Lifes Rich Pageant. As a whole, this concert doesn't crackle like the Toronto show added to the 25th Anniversary edition of Murmur: the band is a bit tighter and the sound is bit more open, so it winds up lacking the furious rush of that highly adrenalized Toronto concert. Nevertheless, the Aragon show shares much of the same ragged spirit, the band playing with a joyful abandon, a spirit that straightens out the ethereal elements of their earliest work and provides one hell of a good time.- allmusic.com

Nouvelle Vague - Master & Servant (Depeche Mode)

The French duo NOUVELLE VAGUE has made a good reputation for themselves by re-modelling old New Wave and Punk classics and soon will release their third album with the apt title ‘3’ via Sony Music. But as it’s still a few weeks to go to the album release they’re sending out a single appetizer with ‘Master & Servant’. OK, a cover version of a DEPECHE MODE song; that doesn’t sound like too much of a spectacular thing to do. I thought the same before but who ever knew what they would do with the song. It’s like an obscure mix of folk and a bit of Bossa Nova with an enticing female vocalist with a French accent singing over it. But the icing on the cake is Martin L. Gore, DEPECHE MODE’s main song writer, doing the backing vocals. That’s how I like remixes or re-works. A Red Hot Chili Peppers classic " Californication " (2006)

Californication is the seventh studio album by American alternative rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on June 8, 1999 on Warner Bros. Records. Produced by Rick Rubin, Californication marked the return of John Frusciante, who had previously appeared on Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magik, to replace Dave Navarro as the band's guitarist. Frusciante's return was credited with changing the band's sound altogether. The record was a notable shift in style from what was produced with Navarro. The album's subject material incorporated various sexual innuendos commonly associated with the band, and introduced themes of lust, death, contemplations of suicide, and drugs.
